Physics and Math Tutoring
Friendly, Patient: Ready to work with you to help you meet your learning goals, whatever they are. I enjoy the job! I work with many students facing special challenges via University of Toronto Accessibility Services.
Experienced: I have helped hundreds of university and high school students in Toronto and elsewhere. Decades of private tutoring and university-level classroom teaching in Canada and the US. Years of insight and experience in identifying which concepts students often find difficult and why, and mutliple ways to make them clearer.
Dual Arts and Science Background: Ph.D. in theoretical physics from Caltech, DMA in music composition from the University of Toronto. I've studied more than one field intensively--- I know what it means to approach a new and unfamiliar subject, and how to think of things from different perspectives and make connections from the familiar to the strange.
Flexible and Resourceful: There are plenty of subjects I know like the back of my hand--- like calculus, linear algebra, most of the standard undergrad physics courses--- but from research and teaching I also have tons of experience in picking up new material quickly, deciphering textbooks and lecture notes, and applying general problem-solving techniques to new situations--- I can help you do the same. So if you're looking for help with a course or topic that's a little bit off the beaten track or not listed below, don't hesitate to ask!
Ready to help you with concepts, problem solving, homework, exam review, etc..
Some (but not all) of the subjects and courses I can help you with:
Single and Multivariable Calculus, Vector analysis, Linear Algebra, Matrices, Ordinary and Partial Differential Equations, Complex Variables, Real Analysis, Groups and Symmetries, Tensors, Index Notation, Fourier Analysis and Transforms, Mechanics/1st-year physics, Engineering Statics and Dynamics, Electricity and Magnetism, Circuits, Waves and Optics, Quantum Mechanics, Classical and Lagrangian Mechanics, Statistical and Thermal Physics, Continuum Mechanics, GRE and Other Standardized Test Preparation... Music Theory too!
University of Toronto courses MAT 135, 136, 137, 223, 224, 235, 237, 244, 301, 334, 337, APM 346, PHY 131,132, 151, 152, 250, 252, 254, 256, 350, 354, 356, 452... CIV 100, ECE 101
If you don't see it on the list, ask!
I am based in Toronto, but you can be anywhere!
COVID-19 information:
I continue to adjust according to the evolving Covid situation, public health guidelines and access restrictions. I am currently working primarily online, but also fully vaccinated and able to start offering some sessions in person in downtown Toronto (on or near U of T campus, outdoor locations preferred).
The upside of online teaching is, you can be anywhere! I am located in Toronto, but we can meet online as long as the time zones work out. I have a document camera to write out notes in real time, like on a blackboard.
Contact me about rates, other questions, or to book an appointment.
